Gardening Scotland 2016

We are delighted to announce that we achieved Silver Medal at Gardening Scotland 2016. Our design pushed minimalism and was welcomed by all. We started the design process in Autumn of 2015 and we would like to thank the following

MGM Timber - Broxburn - Exhibit timber

BSW Sawmill - Boat Of Garten - Supply of Larch tree logs

CONIFOX Nursery - Supply of all shrubs and plants

AMEY  - Tree move

 BEAR - Tree move

TRAFFIC SCOTLAND - Tree move

 POLICE SCOTLAND - Tree move

WEST LOTHIAN COUNCIL & EDINBURGH COUNCIL - Tree move

MSL HAULAGE - Broxburn - Tree move

The biggest issue for us was to prepare a very rare ACER Osakazuki for transport. It took 4 people 6 hours to bandage up, bring in the tree canopy and fleece wrap (to help minimise wind burn) We will post more soon on this.

Honey Flower Seed Mix

We are currently sowing a flower seed mix in areas that are hard for mowing in the summer months, on banking etc.

Honey mixture contains flowers which attract pollinating insects and is a mixture which flowers rapidly and provides good ground cover.

Flowers include:

  • Borrago
  • Cornflower
  • Clarkia
  • Cosmos
  • Cosmos
  • Californian poppy
  • Blanket flower
  • Godetia
  • Coneflower
  • Zinnia

This gentle mixture, with blue the dominant colour, was developed with the aim of maximizing its supply of pollen and nectar to pollinating insects A real ecosystem will be established in this small meadow, where insects birds, etc. will find refuge and food.

What a good teaching tool for school children to help them understand the concept of biodiversity.
